In Soil Make sure to plant seed no more than 1/4 inch deep. 1/4 inch is perfect.
Water Temp should be between 63 f and 75 F
pH balance for seeds is best at 5.6 to 6.2
2. Make sure room temp is at least 72 degrees and is maintained 24/7.
3. Make sure that seeds are not disturbed at all. When watering using a spray bottle will help.
4. Keep seeds moist at all times, without soaking.
5. Maintain lighting of 16 hours a day or better, and complete darkness the rest of the 24 hour period.
6 If using the paper towel method following the same is good with exception of #1
P.S. Please make sure the water is room temp. Do Not water your seedlings with Cold Water..
I hope these hints will help you to achieve better success.
Germination - Proven Technique
Two dessert plates
Step 1: Preparation
Place fresh seed(s) in the refrigerator door area (not the freezer) for 48 hrs. When ready to germinate take the seeds directly from the fridge and germinate them per the below instructions. Seeds treated this way will germinate much faster and with more vigor.
Step 2: Set Up
Take two dessert plates (one slightly smaller then the other) to use as a germination dish. Use the larger one as the bottom.
Fold a paper towel 3 to 4 times into a 5" X 5" square (or so it fits inside the dish with very little overhang) and place on bottom dish.
Step 3: Moisten
Open the folded the paper towel in the middle and add your seed(s).
Make sure they don't touch each other (to prevent bacteria, mould or fungus).
Refold the top half of the paper towel.
Using room temperature, filtered water (Brita) or standard bottled natural spring water that has a neutral PH of 7 or slightly less, gently soak the folded paper towel.
Cover with smaller dessert plate to keep dark.
While holding plates together, drain off excess water.
Set in a dark location at a temperature of approximately 70 to 85 deg F.
Step 4: Check Seed Daily
Every day, check for signs of sprouting and ensure that the paper towel does not dry out.
Add more bottled water when needed and drain off excess water.
If seeds are fresh you should see signs of sprouting in 1 to 3 days. If seeds are older or have not been refrigerated it may take a bit longer sometimes up to two weeks.
Step 5: Transplant
Fill 6 inch or 1 gallon pots with high quality soil such as Fox Farm Ocean Forest. Do not use garden soils with pre-mixed fertilizers as these will kill the seedling.
Moisten soil in pots with filtered water.
Poke a small 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch hole in the soil.
Gently place the sprouting seed into the hole with the white tail root end facing down. Use clean chop sticks or sterilized spoon to handle.
Top all the seed holes with a bit of completely dry soil - just enough to provide a good cover. Do not pack down.
Take a spray bottle of the bottled water from Step 2 and gently wet down soil.
Be careful not to disturb the seeds too much (fine mist).
Place under florescent light for 18 hours per day.
Keep soil moist but not soaking wet.
